comunidade do Software Livre de roubar/piratear suas patentes.<br>

A Microsoft assumiu que uma ferramenta sua rec�m lan�ada cont�m
c�digo GPL, e para contornar o problema, ir� publicar todo o c�digo
da ferramenta em quest�o sob a GPL.<br>

O programa � o WUDT, Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool, que permite
gravar uma imagem ISO do Windows 7 em um pendrive ou DVD de boot.
Apesar de muita gente n�o saber, o Windows 7 tamb�m � vendido via
download nos EUA, e em boa parte do mundo pode ser adquirido com uma
assinatura da MSDN, que fornece sempre as vers�es recentes dos
sistemas operacionais e programas principais da MS. Uma das
facilidades da ferramenta � permitir a instala��o do sistema em
netbooks, que geralmente n�o incluem drive de DVD. No Vista e 7 �
f�cil <a href="http://www.explorando.viamep.com/windows/criar-pendrive-bootavel-vista.php"
target="_blank">fazer um pen drive de boot</a> usando ferramentas
nativas, com alguns comandos. Para quem usa Linux � mais do que
comum usar imagens de diversas formas, mas entre usu�rios de Windows
isso n�o � t�o popular, de forma que a ferramenta divulgada pela MS
� bastante �til.<br>

Uma postagem no Port 25, site de divulga��o de aplica�es abertas
mantido pela Microsoft, pede desculpas pelo ocorrido e diz que uma
empresa terceirizada foi contratada para fazer o programa, sendo
assim a MS n�o tinha conhecimento a fundo do c�digo fonte. Pelo que
v�rias fontes dizem os c�digos open source embutidos na ferramenta
eram do <a href="http://www.codeplex.com/ImageMaster" target="_blank">ImageMaster</a>,
curiosamente hospedado no CodePlex.com (site da pr�pria) e ainda n�o
lan�ado. � at� engra�ado quando uma empresa que vive alegando
viola�es de patentes suas em solu�es livres, se utiliza de c�digo
alheio dessa forma.<br>

A nota foi publicada no final da semana passada, e pelo prometido
ainda nessa semana o c�digo fonte deve ser disponibilizado, sob a
GPL v2.<br>

Que verdade?<br>
Apaguei porque a �rea de coment�rios ficava muito maior que a
�rea de texto e, esteticamente, fica feio. Quanto �s
discuss�es, eram muito boas, especialmente no que tange �
defesa do software livre, que exite para uso profissional e
n�o para amadores.</p>
