<p style=" text-align: justify;">O mecanismo do Parkinson � a morte
seletiva dos neur�nios da via nigro-estriatal, cujas sinapses s�o
mediadas por dopamina, mas n�o adianta ter dopamina no local se n�o
existem neur�nios para utiliz�-la em suas sinapses. </p>
<p style=" text-align: justify;">Se a simples administra��o de
dopamina resolvesse, o uso de levodopa, um f�rmaco precursor da
dopamina que � fabricado h� mais de 50 anos, resolveria o problema,
mas ele reduz o tremor no momento em que este sintoma aparece,
quando cerca de 90% dos neur�nios da via j� est�o mortos e com seu
uso constante e o passar do tempo, a levodopa acelera a morte dos
neur�nios restantes. </p>
