Un servidor intermediari és un ordinador intermedi situat entre el vostre ordinador i Internet i proporciona serveis com ara cau de pàgines web i filtrat. Els servidors intermediaris de cau us donen accés més ràpid als llocs web que ja heu visitat guardant localment o encauant aquelles pàgines. Els servidors intermediaris de filtratge usualment proporcionen la capacitat de bloquejar peticions d'anuncis, correu brossa o qualsevol altra cosa que vulgueu bloquejar.
